Always keen to try out something a bit different, Midlands Rocks popped across to the NEC last week to check out Tutankhamun: The Immersive Exhibition. As implied, the exhibition takes you back in time to Ancient Egypt, and combines the traditional museum information boards and artefacts with the use of VR and 360 degree screens to fully immerse the visitor into the experience.
The legendary discovery of the final resting place of the boy King in 1922 is fully explored and, during one of the VR experiences, you take on the role of archaeologist Howard Carter as he makes his way through the Valley of the Kings and into the tomb itself. Without giving too much away, the other VR exhibit begins with the opening of the tomb and a stunning journey into the underworld.
Overall, we had a fun and informative couple of hours visiting Tutankhamun.. and found the whole experience to be really interesting and well organised. It’s well worth a visit just for the amazing visuals alone.
