Hailing from Staffordshire Naked Sunday are one of the hardest working bands on the UK scene. With no signs of slowing down, 2026 is looking certain to be the busiest yet with gigs booked and new music in the pipeline. We caught up with the band (Martin Stanyer, vocals/guitar; Laura Stanyer, bass/vocals; Alex Williams, lead guitar/vocals; Liam Collins, drums/vocals) and made them sit still for a moment for this amazing interview.
Can you tell us about the band’s origins. Where did you meet?
Naked Sunday are all from Stafford Town. It all started with Martin the singer writing music on his own but wanted to turn it into a full band, Laura joined on bass and then we auditioned Liam to join on drums, and Alex became a member not long after as he wanted to write original music too.
What are the musical influences of each band member and how do you forge them into a cohesive whole?
The band’s influences are different from each other but it what makes us all gel together bringing different ideas and creating the Naked Sunday vibe. Martin’s influences include Queen; Laura, Mötley Crüe; UFO for Alex, and Foo Fighters for Liam. This helps each song sound different: from heavy riffs, harmonic vocals, elements of blues, glam, indie, hard rock: we have it all!
Can you tell us about your local music scene. Is it supportive? Are there many places to play?
Stafford does have a good music scene and is very supportive. We organised a festival last year which gave Stafford musicians and bands a chance to play three songs each, with both an acoustic stage and electric, it was a huge success. There is also a local studio called Shoestring Studio which has been a great community for musicians. We have various bars to play from The Dog House, The Shrewsbury Arms, The Pickled Pig and RedRum Venue, alongside Top of The World where bands such as Thin Lizzy and Motörhead have performed in the past. Shoestring Studio are just in the process of setting up a live room for bands to perform.
What’s the best and worst thing about your local scene?
The best thing is the diversity of bands and artists, the worst thing is “gatekeeping” at Venues.

How do you feel you’ve evolved musically throughout your career?
As a band we have grown stronger together musically, our music has definitely got heavier. We also like to engage with our fans and get them involved on backing vocals for recordings and appearances in music videos. We have also had some big achievements winning Best Staffordshire independent band of 2025.
Performing at Penkridge Open Air that had acts such as The Vengaboys, N-Trance. We played Teddy Rocks Festival with bands such as The Darkness and Zutons. Kerrang! Radio and we also wrote a football single called ‘We’re Gonna win the Cup’ which beat Queen on the amazon music charts best sellers in 2022.
Can you tell us about tours you’ve completed. Any war stories you’d like to share?
When we performed at Teddy Rocks festival we had to sound check on the Vocal Zone stage at 10:00am. We were performing at noon and after the performance we were giving free Red Stripe which both Liam and Laura made the most of, lets just say they were in Bed by 6pm! When we performed at KK Steel Mill, Alex wore a quilt but left his boxers at home, so we had to phone Liam’s dad to get some boxers for Alex.
Will we see you on the road anytime soon?
We have various gigs booked including the Saddle in Chester 2nd April, The Metal Monocle 27th March in Leicester, Merlin’s Bar in Birmingham 8th May, Tap n’ Tumbler in Nottingham 8th August to just name a few. Also March 22nd an acoustic set At the Pickled Pig in Stafford straight after Laura and Martin cross the finish line of the Stafford Half Marathon.
What’s next for the band? How do you plan to reach the next level?
We are currently recording a new album and each track will have fans on doing backing vocals. We have a new single which we are going to release in April called ‘Mutha Fucker’ with a new music video. We will be sending the new album of for reviews, apply for more festivals and keep exploring new venues and working with other bands.
Finally, what’s the one question (and answer) interviewers never ask but you wish they would?
They never ask what is your favourite food: Martin is very passionate about a cheese and onion cob 🤣
